The Philippines is officially called the Republic of the Philippines, and is an archipelago country with around 7,000 islands. It achieved independence (from the United States) in 1946, and was previously a Spanish and American colony. About 92% of the country is Christian. They have a population of 94 million, a medium HDI of 0.644, and a land area of 299,764 sq km.
