Thailand’s official name is the Kingdom of Thailand, and was previously named Siam until 1939. It was the only country in Southeast Asia that was not ruled by Western nations at some point. 95% of Thailand is Buddhist. Thailand’s government has been overthrown by a coup d’état multiple times in history, and most recently in 2006.

Thailand has a population of about 66 million individuals and a medium HDI of 0.682.
