Pakistan’s official name is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It has the sixth largest population (180 million) and is the second largest Muslim country in the world. The name means “Land of the Pure” in Persian and Urdu, and was coined in 1933 as “Pakstan”, and acronym of the names of the five northern regions of India. Pakistan is a federal parliamentary republic.

The second highest mountain in the world, K2, is located between Pakistan and China.
